Bánh Tráng CDs are a reinterpretation of two familiar objects: Vietnamese rice paper and the compact disc. Inspired by the round form of bánh tráng and the nostalgia of early-2000s CDs, each piece transforms a humble everyday material into a collectible object that can be seen, held, and heard. Printed on 100% Vietnamese rice paper, each CD is made from six layers laminated together and secured with metal rivets and screws. Due to the handmade nature of the material, no two pieces are exactly alike. Variations in texture, colour, transparency, and surface marks are a natural part of the work and make each CD unique. Dó Postcards are printed on traditional Vietnamese Dó paper, a handmade material crafted from the bark of Dó trees in Northern Vietnam. Known for its distinctive texture and soft, fibrous edges, Dó paper has been used in Vietnamese art and printmaking for centuries. The postcards were inspired by a documentary on the craft of Dó papermaking and the unique qualities of the material itself. One of our favourite details is the raw edge of the paper, affectionately referred to as "Dó fur"- soft to the touch, almost like petting a cat.
